Descripción:
The book discusses the impact of crisis and conflict within the agricultural and rural context. Issues explored include the agricultural and/or rural causes or drivers of crisis and conflict (including competition over natural, water, and land resources); the effects of crisis and conflict on agriculture in developing countries (including effects on both the physical and human agricultural landscape); and appropriate responses or strategies to restore or rehabilitate agriculture during and following crisis or conflict and make it more resilient. The text consider crises, including politically-driven violence and dispute; as well as crises stemming from natural disasters or other phenomena (earthquake/tsunami, drought, flooding, climate change, and disease epidemics). Case studies explore the relationship between agriculture and conflict/crisis before, during, and after crisis periods. The case studies focus on developing countries, but otherwise cover of all major geographical areas (Asia, Latin America, Middle East-North Africa, and Sub-Saharan Africa).
